This event is for handlers or individuals who are looking to get out in the Shooting field or have been out this season and looking for advice and support 

Date:  6th July  2025

We will cover the following areas: –

We are looking provide an overview to Picking Up in the shooting field for the novice gundog handler. Perhaps you have been with a trainer and looking for the next stage in understanding how the shoot works and what is expected of the picking-up team.
Then is the day for you.
We will cover the following areas: –
  • Picking Up Teams role from a Gamekeepers perspective
  • The role of the Picker Up and what’s expected
  • The guns and shoot etiquette
  • Terminology used in the shooting field
  • Dispatching of Game
  • Welfare of the dogs  in the field from a vet , things to consider when Picking Up 
  • Essential Equipment
  • Q&A
You will also be able to join a day’s shooting and be part of the picking up team during the 2025-26 season, standing with an experienced member of the team to give you and your dog first-hand experience in the shooting field.

How will the day be run?

Morning session

Meet at the Wadlow shoot lodge at Six Mile Bottom shoot

How will the day be run?
  • Morning session in the shoot lodge at Six Mile Bottom shoot
  1. 0930 arrive for 1000 start
  2. Introductions in shoot lodge, with Coffee? Tea and Bacon role
  3. Overview and discussion of the topics above
  4. Break for lunch (Included in the price for the day)
  • Afternoon session in the field
  1. Two drives simulating picking with a team of guns if possible
  2. Finish around 1530
  • Book your day in the field for 2025 -26  season. Price £150 per handler (inc VAT)
